Let’s jump straight and talk about the mistakes that every newbie blogger make:

1. Use Free Domain

Using the free domain is one of the very common mistakes that every blogger makes when start blogging. I made the same mistake back in 2018.

Doing a lot of hard work on the free domain, I didn’t get any positive results.

Then I moved to a custom domain name, here I got some results that filled me with a lot of positive attitude.

With a custom domain name you can have the online presence and the needed exposure that you deserve.

Having a custom domain name gives you the freedom to do what you think. And you can establish your own brand.

If you are a new blogger doing the same mistake, then I recommend you not to waste your time with free domain because it not take you anywhere in the longer run. So buy a Domain Name.

Some disadvantages of using a Free Domain Name:

1. You Can’t Control The Domain: Free domain name providers do not give you the full control of the domain, so If you do some serious mistakes then you can lose your domain. Hence, all of your data will be lost without recovery.

2. SEO Unfriendly: Free domains are SEO unfriendly, so they are very hard to rank on Google even their indexing by search engine is very difficult.

So, I recommend you not to go with free domain but spend some money and buy a custom domain name.

If you are thinking to purchase a domain name then you can go to the domain name service providers like Godaddy and NameCheap.

2. Not Choosing a Good Hosting

You don’t have a good hosting or using any free hosting?

If yes, then you are doing a huge mistake by ignoring this,

Good hosting is a must for any blogger if he wants to get benefits from your blog.

If you are using free hosting platforms like blogger dot com(blogger.com) then you should immediately get out of it,

Because free hosting providers give very little control. So you can not customize your blog as you want.

If you are using free hosting then there is a chance that you can lose all your data if the company shuts down.

If you are a blogger committing this mistake, Then I recommend you to move on good hosting which provides you a fast speed.

There are thousands of hosting providers in the market that provide Good Speed, Unlimited Bandwidth and 24X7 Customer Support,

But are all the hosting providers offer that much of value the state in their sales pages? I think “NO”

So which hosting should you use as an Amateur Blogger?

If you ask me, Then I recommend you to go with Siteground because they provide amazing features at a very low cost.

“Siteground is officially recommended by WordPress.com”,

3. Terrible Blog Design

This is one of the very big and common mistakes that every newbie made.

Because as a newbie you don’t have an Idea and experience.

If you are using a free Theme then you are working on your own destruction.

Why I am saying this?

Because when I started blogging in 2018 I have tried many free themes from WordPress Theme Store,

But they didn’t look professional not only that It takes a lot of time to load on the browser.

Then I came on a conclusion

Don’t use free Theme, they are SEO unfriendly and they make your site heavy so the loading speed of the overall site on the browser is high which results in not ranking on the search engine.

So If you want to start a blog then you should make your budget for the premium Theme.

Brian Dean mentioned in his article “200 ranking factors” that If your blog is not SEO optimized and not having proper user interface then it is very hard to rank on Google.

Here are some reasons why you should invest in premium themes:

1. Premium themes look very professional and attractive. And your site’s look plays a vital role in your blog success.

2. Premium themes are SEO optimized, mobile-friendly, and load fast on the browser.

3. Free themes give limited control, so you can’t customize as you want but paid themes give you the whole control of customization.

4. If you have any problem related to theme then there is customer care and support which will sort out your problem.

All because of the above, you can understand why Pro Bloggers use premium themes.

But, which theme should you use?

Let me help you to choose a proper theme,

There are thousands of premium themes in the market that you can use according to what kind of blog you want to make.

But,

GeneratePress is one of the perfect lightweight theme. I am using this theme in this blog. This theme is the love of every blogger.

GeneratePress is SEO optimized and mobile-friendly. It is a very lightweight theme that loads faster and gives full control to theme customization with customer care and support.

Now let’s move to the next mistake that almost every amateur blogger makes when they just started.

4. Copying Content Without Giving Credit

If you do this mistake then believe me it can cost you very high.

Writing a blog post is a difficult task for many bloggers so they copy other blogger’s content and paste on their site with some modification without their permission.

Hence they don’t rank on Google because Google bots have crawled the content before so the copied content comes into Plagiarism.

But, “what is Plagiarism?”

“Plagiarism is copying and pasting without giving credit to the original creator.”

Google hates Plagiarism and if you are committing this mistake then it is like committing SEO suicide and even Google can penalize your site.

So If you want to be a successful blogger then you have to write your own content.

If you are using other’s content in any way then you should give them credit.

I have committed the same mistake when I started blogging but soon I understood It can neither work for a longer time nor give success in the future.

Let’s see the next mistake.

5. Not Writing Consistently

This is the mistake that every blogger do when they start their journey, If I come with numbers then we can say 93% of amateur blogger commit that mistake,

And believe me because of that single mistake they avoid blogging,

They think with 2-3 blog posts they can rank on Google with unlimited traffic to their site, but it doesn’t work like that hence they quit blogging.

so, you should avoid that mistake right now.

You should work consistently If you want to see some good results and should not stop after writing some articles.

I know in starting of a blog there are many problems you face as a newbie,

But keep writing consistently then after a few articles you will feel comfortable and ease in writing content.

I don’t know how to write a good article then?

If you don’t know and want to know how to write a good article then follow these steps:

1. Find a topic that you have to write about, for this you can use QnA forums like Quora or Reddit,

2. Then do some keyword research which is very important to write a good article (For finding keywords you can use a tool like SEMrush)

3. Now analyze the top 10 articles that rank on the search engine for the related keyword and create the outline for the content accordingly.

4. Finally you can write your article for your blog and repeat the same process to generate good quality content consistently.

I hope everything is clear to you, So let’s move to the next mistake that an amateur blogger makes.

6. Ignore Email List Building

Email list building is one of the mistakes that is very general in amateur bloggers because they don’t have enough knowledge and budget.

Email list building helps you a lot to drive quality traffic to your blog, which generates revenue for you.

If you are a new blogger and want to start list building then I recommend you to go for it because with this method you will get a loyal audience.

Email list building helps you to have a loyal audience, so if your blog post doesn’t rank on Google still you can have targeted traffic and that is because of the Email list.

Which email marketing tool should you use?

There are many email marketing tools are present in the market like Convertkit, Aweber and you can go with any of them but I recommend you to go with Convertkit.

Hurrey you have corrected your mistake, Now move to the next mistake without wasting time.

7. Build Backlinks Like Crazy

Backlinks are very important to rank on Google for an amateur blogger?

Are you thinking the same?

“Yes”

Then let me tell you very clearly, for a newbie there is only one thing important and that is quality content.

New bloggers write few articles and with that, they put their effort into the making of backlinks like crazy,

But it doesn’t work like that.

First, you have to write 15-20 articles on your blog with that you can make NoFollow UGC Backlink by commenting on other’s blog posts.

After that, you should work on creating high-quality backlinks with Guest Post, Broken Link Building or Email outreach,

There are my friends Vishwajeet Kumar and Archna Tiwari who accepts guest post so you can write a post for their blog for quality backlinks.

Let’s move on to the next mistake.

8. Don’t Leverage Social Media Traffic

The very big problem to every new blogger that they don’t get enough traffic.

If they don’t tackle the problem they quit blogging.

Why don’t they get traffic?

They don’t get traffic because they don’t use other traffic sources like Social Media, QnA forum sites. But they totally depend on organic traffic.

An amateur blogger should understand, social media is the source of high traffic and Facebook is on #1 for traffic.

You as a new blogger should not rely on a single traffic source but you should promote your content on social media.

While Google indirectly loves social signals,

Let me show you something related to Google ranking and Social signal.

You can see clearly that the site above in rank has a higher social signal. As you can see the above graphic by CognitiveSEO.

I think now you can understand the importance of social signals to get traffic and a higher ranking on Google.

9. Share Only Your Content

Are you a blogger not sharing other bloggers’ content of your niche on social media?

Most of the amateur blogger will answer it “Yes”

Is it right or wrong?

Listen, you need to understand one thing “when you help others they will also help you”, so if you share other bloggers’ content then in the next time they will share your content.

Hence sharing other bloggers’ content increases your social value and makes your good social image to interact with.

Sharing other bloggers’ content makes a good connection with them which can be useful in the future.

There is a principle called as “give and take” it is not only true about social life but it is true for business also,

So, if you are doing that mistake then you must avoid it right now.

10. Not Linking To Others

You already know that blogging is all about Connections so if you have good connections then you can grow very easily.

How to make connections?

As I told you earlier you should share others content so they can share your content next time.

You should link them to your blog post so they don’t hesitate to give you a backlink.

This all makes a good mutual connection which will be helpful for your blogging journey.

While linking others in your blog post is a good signal for Google to rank higher because it is a signal of a more descriptive blog post.

Now let’s move to the next mistake that an amateur blogger make.

11. Scared to Invest In Plugins/Tools

This is one of the mistakes that every amateur blogger make.

Even when I started I also committed the same mistake,

Why amateur bloggers make that mistake?

Let me put it that way, Everybody wants to save their money and newbies are not different. Other thing is they are lack of budget.

Because they are new they generally don’t understand that it is not just a spend of money but an investment in their business.

If you want to be a successful blogger then you must invest money in the tools and plugins needed.

What are the tools to invest money?

Blogging is a business so there are many tools that you need to grow your business.

Let me put the list of Must tools/plugins:

1. Grammarly (Online Proofreading Tool)

2. SEMrush (Best All In One SEO Tool)

3. Short Pixel (Optimize Your Blog Images)

4. Thrive Architect (Plugin To Design Your Blog)

5. GeneratePress (Perfect Lightweight Theme for Blog)

These are the tools that you will need in your blogging journey,

If a person wants to get fast results in his business then he has to invest in it.

You should take blogging as a business if you want to flourish it to its maximum possible extent.
